Our computer teacher Mr. Case gave us a great link to a website that shows a picture of a computer and tells what every component does and surprisingly it was up to date.

So this is a short short summary of what i know until now :

3.5" drives - floppy and zip drives used for storage (outdated)
5.25" drives - Cd's , dvd's ,cd writers ,dvd writers .Optical storage.There might be more than 1.
Motherboard- in what you plug every component of the computer.
Computer case - it's a case taht protects the components and little kids that might put their fingers in hte pc.
Cpu- the brain of the computer. Little chip-like component thats made by Intel and Amd.
Hard Drive - you save stuff on it like documents and programs
Video cards - draws the pictures on screen These 2 can be onboard the
Sound cards- they create sound signals motherboard.
Modem -stands for modulator demodulator and it connects to the internet.

Mr Case showed us some of the components on the inside like the cd or half the cd better said. Cds work by having little holes in it and read by lasers . If the light comes back it's a 0 if th elight doesn't come back it's a 1 therefore it's using binary language. A cd has 56 bilion bits , a dvd has way more since it's 4.7 ot 9 gigabytes and a blu-ray disc can store incredibly more at around 25 gigabytes or 50 gigabites dual layer. These are called optical media.
A harddrive is similar to a cd but it's storage capacity is way more and uses magnets instead of pits . So any hard drive is like a big rewritable CD. But even rewritable cd's won't erase an write forever but hard drives will.

Today we learned about videocards and soundcards. Well each does what they say : soundcards handle sound signals and video cards handle video signals . The major videocard companies are ATI and Nvidia. THe soundcard connects to a pci port and the video cards connect to AGp or "pci express " ports . Modems use the phone lines to transfer internet signals and also connect to the pci ports or they might be external .THe external ones use a diff. technology but have the same effect

Today we learned about motherboard ,cpu , memory and hard drive.
the motherboard is what you plug every other component of the pc in it.
THe cpu is like the brain which does the calculations. Mr. Case showed us some and were made of gold , okay not really. The lead makers are Amd and Intel . Early computers had even less than 100 mhz and today 3.2 ghz processor isn't too uncommon. A new technology called dual core lets the processor do 2 different sets of instructions at once.
THe hard drive is used for storage like saving your documents , music and OS. It is allways there like a bookshelf. Early computers had a huge hard drive that could hold like a around 80 megabytes (around 10% of a Cd )compared to today's technology that easily holds 100 gigabytes.
Memory is a little trickier it holds information but only what you do then . E.g :the Hard Drive is the library and your memory is a table on which you read your material. And i guess your brain is the cpu and the whole room is the motherboard on which you put the stuff in.
Mr Case showed some old technology and it it remarkable how much these components evolved in size and performance also.

Now we are learning about the binary system .The earliest computers were abacus's but when electricity kicked in after WW1 computers just got more powerfull .
Computers work like this : they use electricity . Electricity can be on or off. "On" is 1 and "off" is 0 . Well that wouldnt't be too helpfull. But it can count using these numbers , how ?Well there are place holders like 10 or 100 or 1000 and they get bigger by ten.In the binary system you use a thing callled the binary code which are powers of 2 like :1, 2 , 4, 8 , 16 , 32 , 64, 128 etc...
An example will show how this works the best way .
THe number you want to obtain in binary is 64 .notice the way the code goes from right to left.
Binary code 256 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
Binary number 1 0 0 0 0 0 0

If you want 12 it's 1 1 0 0
because 4+8 is 12

It's hard to make a chart here . All you have to do is to like check the numbers from the binary code with a one and add them till you get your desired regular number .If you dom't need that number it's a zero.
0 or 1 is called a bit . 8 bits are a byte and the rest folow the metric system like a killobyte , megabyte , gigabyte , terrabyte. This is the way computers make calculations .

On Wednesday we did the presentation . I think it went fairly well and had a few mistakes. On Wednesday was my b-day but didn't make a big deal out of it.Hope i get a good mark .

today i'm giving the presentation for the Keyboard project. We worked hard on it and i hope it turns out well and it will unless we start stuttering. Then again it's all about reading the audience.

LAst time in class we got pictures taken so only we had time to work on our projects.Current state frustrated/confused from homework.

These are only notes and not the final project.Keyboards are peripherals that connect to a computer via USB or PS2 ports to transfer signals to it.Most signals are letters , numbers and symbols like: @#$% but many keyboards offer shortcut buttons which open a program with one click.Keyboards were inspired by typewriters .Keyboards have small processor like a computer but not as powerful.Keyboards have a key matrix which is a set of circuits but are interrupted at each key. When you press the button it makes contact with the matrix and sends the information to the computer to display the letter you pressed or do the action corresponding to the key. Each Keyboard has a Read-Only Memory has a character map which tells the keyboard's processor to when pressing "h" to display "h" and when pressing Shift and h to display capital H. Some Keyboard layouts are :- Qwerty (and the most common one you probably have at homeand these are the first letters in itABCDE - The letters are in alphabetical orderDVORAK- not as popular as qwertyQwertz - the European version of the Qwerty keyboardwith more lettersKeyboards are wireless and wired.THe wireless ones use infrared (IF) ,radiofrequency (RF) and Bluetooth signals to communicate with the computer. Some keyboards are modded meaning little lights are added in it or the the main material from which is made is replaced with glass , metal or other materials. In newer games the WSAD keys are used as arrow keys to move a character.Keyboards are dirtier than toilets if not properly disinfected. If it's your germs it's ok , but if you use a public computer and a public keyboard...

I'm having trouble getting All the right type to work. First i couldnt make a profile now someone else is on the computer , Can't blame her though saw her profile before i made mine on it. I
l'l just stay one day after school to do some typing work . I can type preety well so I'l finish fast (hopefully). I got my project and it is a keyboard. NOOOO !!!! I wanted graphic cards i know everything about them.

it's Friday Wohooo ! Today we learned what CC and Bcc means. If you didn't know what that is, it means carbon copy and blind carbon copy. CC seds your email to a lot of people you wish and Bcc sends it to the people you wish except they don't know to who else you sent it. MR. Case also showed us to attach some pictures but i allready knew all these.
An interesting thing is Gooey(i'll Google out the correct spelling at home) or how that service is called similar to Hotmail .It looks preety cool. Free games for all.
I have to send some info now to Mr. Case aat wnd Mrs. Griffith .
That's whe learned today.

Hi my name is Edward David (Call me Eddie or David ) and I live in Toronto . Im gonna be 15 years old really soon (2o sept ) . Originaly i'm Romanian , landed in Canada in 28 August 2004. More than 2 years passsed since then . I'm a picky person usually . I really love video games and computer forums (about videogames) . My favorite movie (saga) is probably the "Scary Movie" series or "Kill Bill" . My music tastes are horrible for the average person but i love rock . Don't really care what others think.
If I would travel my top places to visit would probably be : Las Vegas , Cuba , Micronesia and other tropical places . I'm a friendly person that doesn't smile a lot ... not sure why. I have a fascination with subcultures like the gothic one. The fashion consists of black clothes . I don't listen to gothic music which consists of mostly tribal drums, I listen to heavy metal and other stuff associated to it. Enough about music!
I have a preety small room and until a couple of days ago I had a huge huge HUGE bed in in occupying 99.9% of it. THe problem is it was inflatable and kept growing until it exloded. I expected to be thrown on the ceiling not to wake up on the floor ,haha.
Now i miss my old friends though i got mad on them for not calling me . But still they did some great things for me and I'll never forget them unless i get amnesia.
The websites i visit most are :-Myspace.com , Youtube.com and Gamespot .
I have to go right now , class is almost over.
Thanks for reading my bloq
Many more to come.

Test bloq...current time 12.51 wednesday woodbine junior highschool.
